How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Finely grind cacao nibs into porridge or yogurt, or use cacao powder in pancakes and baked goods. Skip whole nibs and chocolate candy: high choking risk.

Cut:

Powder or ground nibs in baked goods. No whole nibs or candy.

9-12 months

Prep:

Continue with finely ground cacao in baked goods or scoopable foods. Cacao contains caffeine, so wait until older to share regularly.

Cut:

Finely ground in food. No whole nibs or chocolate candy.

12-18 months

Prep:

Use small amounts of cacao powder in baked goods or sprinkled on yogurt and warm cereal, or offer a small alcohol-free cacao drink in a cup.

Cut:

Powder in food or drinks. Avoid whole nibs and chocolate candy.
