Introducing Wheat to your baby
Around 6 months. Wheat is a common first grain alongside oats or rice.
Cooked pasta (soft, small shapes), bread crust for chewing practice (watch for gumming), wheat cereal thinned to oatmeal consistency, pancakes cut in strips.
Hives, swelling, vomiting, wheezing. Celiac disease is a separate condition - suspect if chronic GI symptoms appear weeks into wheat exposure, not minutes.
Acute reaction: stop and call pediatrician or emergency services by severity. Chronic GI symptoms: discuss celiac testing with pediatrician before removing wheat.
Daily exposure is fine once tolerated.
General informational content, not medical advice. Talk to your pediatrician before introducing allergens, especially if your baby has eczema, a known food allergy, or a family history of severe allergic reactions.
Log first exposures, watch for reactions, and get reminders to keep allergens in the rotation. Free to try.
