Banana, Avocado and Oatmeal

Banana, Avocado and Oatmeal

From 6 months Β· 3 foods

Ingredients

How to prepare each food

Banana

Prep

Use a fully ripe banana so it mashes easily between two fingers. Peel it and offer it as a smooth mash on a spoon, or hand over a finger-length strip the baby can hold with a bit poking out of the fist. A firm or under-ripe banana is harder to manage, so soften it by mashing.

Cut

Smooth mash, or a finger-length strip held in the fist.

Note

Banana is low-risk when fully ripe and soft. A firm or under-ripe banana is harder to manage, so mash it or wait until it ripens. Always supervise eating.

Avocado

Prep

A ripe avocado is one of the easiest first foods. Peel it, remove the pit, and mash the soft flesh smooth, or leave it slightly lumpy as your baby gets used to texture. You can also offer a thick finger-length wedge to hold and gnaw on. It is naturally soft and squishes easily between two fingers.

Cut

Smooth or lightly mashed, or a thick finger-length wedge to self-feed.

Note

Avocado is soft and low-risk, but a very ripe one is slippery and can be hard for little hands to hold. Mash it or coat pieces lightly to help with grip, and always keep portions soft enough to squish between two fingers.

Oatmeal

Prep

Cook oats with plenty of liquid into a smooth, thick oatmeal. Use breast milk, formula, or water, and thin it as needed so it's easy to swallow. Iron-fortified baby oat cereal works well here too.

Cut

Smooth, thick oatmeal you can spoon-feed.
