Flaxseed

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Sprinkle ground flaxseed or whole flaxseeds on mashed vegetables, warm cereal, or yogurt. Or stir into bread or muffin batter.

Cut:

Sprinkle a small amount on soft food. Whole flaxseeds in batter are fine.

9-12 months

Prep:

Continue sprinkling ground or whole flaxseeds on soft foods. Break baked goods with flaxseed into bite-sized pieces for self-feeding.

Cut:

Bite-sized pieces of bread or muffin. Sprinkle of seeds on top of food.

12-18 months

Prep:

Add ground or whole flaxseeds, or a bit of flaxseed oil, to the child's food. Try energy balls or smoothies.

Cut:

Mixed into smoothies, baked goods, or sauces. Whole seeds are fine at this age.
