Mayonnaise

Usually introduced around 6 months

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Use store-bought, honey-free mayo (homemade often uses raw egg). Spread thin on toast or corn cob, or bind fish cakes, fritters, or tamagoyaki.

Cut:

Thin layer or as binder. Honey-free, store-bought.

9-12 months

Prep:

Use honey-free mayo as a sauce or seasoning on bite-sized foods to support pincer-grasp practice. Choose low-sodium when you can.

Cut:

Sauce or seasoning on bite-sized pieces. Honey-free.

12-18 months

Prep:

Offer store-bought mayo in any shared dish. A small cup of dip is fine, just expect the toddler may eat it plain, so serve a tiny amount.

Cut:

Mixed in dishes or small dipping cup.
