Lime

Usually introduced around 6 months

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Use lime juice or zest to season fruit, vegetables, grains, or beans. Boosts vitamin C and helps iron absorption. Baby may enjoy a taste on its own.

Cut:

A few drops of juice or a pinch of zest stirred into food, or a seedless half to taste.

9-12 months

Prep:

Continue with lime juice and zest. Babies may enjoy gnawing on a seedless half and learning the word sour.

Cut:

Juice or zest stirred in, or a seedless half for gnawing.

12-18 months

Prep:

Add lime juice and zest freely. Let the toddler practice squeezing a large seedless wedge. Dried limes should be fully rehydrated and seedless.

Cut:

Large seedless wedges to squeeze, juice, zest, or rehydrated dried lime.
