How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Serve well-cooked, mashed chayote so baby can scoop, or offer large soft wedges to munch on as finger food.

Cut:

Mash soft, or cut large soft wedges bigger than baby's mouth.

9-12 months

Prep:

Serve bite-sized pieces of well-cooked chayote for the pincer grasp, or thinly sliced raw if you prefer.

Cut:

Bite-sized cooked pieces, or raw grated or paper-thin slices.

12-18 months

Prep:

Offer bite-sized cooked pieces with a fork to encourage utensil practice, or continue serving raw thinly sliced or grated.

Cut:

Cooked bite-sized pieces, or raw grated or thinly sliced.
