Venison

Usually introduced around 6 months

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Mix ground venison into easy-to-scoop foods like mashed potatoes, or serve well-done strips about two adult fingers wide. Bigger and more resistive is safer here.

Cut:

Ground in soft food, or strips two adult fingers wide.

9-12 months

Prep:

Serve ground venison patties alongside applesauce or yogurt to add moisture and aid swallowing. Coach baby to spit out big pieces by sticking out your own tongue.

Cut:

Patties with sauce; let baby work big pieces out themselves.

12-18 months

Prep:

Continue venison patties on applesauce, mayo, or yogurt to aid swallowing, or try minced or shredded steak mixed with cauliflower, lentils, or rice.

Cut:

Patties with sauce, or minced/shredded steak in dishes.
