How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Offer large turnip wedges cooked until soft for munching, or mashed for scooping. Mashed also binds grains, lentils, and seeds.

Cut:

Cooked wedges or mash; finely chopped young leaves.

9-12 months

Prep:

Cooked, soft turnip cut into bite-sized pieces (knuckle-sized) for the pincer grasp. Larger wedges still good for taking accurate bites.

Cut:

Cooked bite-sized or large wedges.

12-18 months

Prep:

Continue bite-sized cooked turnip, large wedges, or mashed in patties or fritters. Once biting and tearing develops, raw grated or paper-thin slices.

Cut:

Cooked any form, or raw grated or paper-thin.
