Teff

Usually introduced around 6 months

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Make teff porridge two ways: cooled and sticky to roll into a soft ball, and in a bowl for baby to scoop with hands.

Cut:

Soft sticky balls or scoopable porridge. Cooking with coconut milk improves stickiness.

9-12 months

Prep:

Use teff to make fritters, injera, pancakes, or patties broken into bite-sized pieces. Continue offering teff porridge too.

Cut:

Bite-sized pieces about an adult knuckle wide. Soft injera tears easily.

12-18 months

Prep:

Use teff as a base for sauces, stews, and stir-fries. Make injera or teff bread and show how to dip and bite.

Cut:

Soft injera or pancake torn into strips. Sauces and stews alongside.
