6-9 months

Prep:

12-18 months

Prep:

Pull string cheese into thin strands before serving so it is no longer cylindrical. Never cut into rounds, this shape increases choking risk. Model pulling apart in front of the child.

Cut:

Thin strands pulled apart, served as long strands or small pieces from strands. Never rounds.

2 years and up

Prep:

Many toddlers can pull string cheese apart themselves. Coach the activity and model dramatic chewing. Only serve when seated and supervised. Never cut into rounds.

Cut:

Pulled into strands by the child, with adult coaching. Seated and supervised. Never rounds.
