The pod skin and whole peas inside can pose a choking risk. Cook until very soft and flatten or smash so the pod splits open. Avoid raw, firm pods.
Steam until very soft, until the pod gives easily. Smash slightly so the pod opens and the peas inside flatten. Offer whole soft pods to grasp.
