How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Tiny crumbles of well-cooked sausage mixed into mashed vegetables, porridge, or stew. Or a whole patty at least 5 cm wide, soft enough to mash with gums.

Cut:

Tiny crumbles in soft food only. Whole patty 5 cm minimum. No slices.

9-12 months

Prep:

Small crumbles of soft ground sausage in scoopable foods. Or soft patties broken into bite-sized pieces. Avoid dried sausage and jerky (too firm).

Cut:

Small crumbles or bite-sized patty pieces. No dried sausages.

12-18 months

Prep:

Soft cooked crumbles with casing removed. When ready, casing on and cut lengthwise into long quartered sticks. Cut off tapered ends. Never round coins.

Cut:

Crumbles, lengthwise quartered sticks, never round coins.
