How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Peeled rutabaga wedges cooked until soft for munching, or mashed as a binder for grains or lentils. Young leaves cooked and chopped fine.

Cut:

Peeled cooked wedges or mash; finely chopped young leaves.

9-12 months

Prep:

Bite-sized peeled rutabaga, cooked soft, for the pincer grasp. Or raw grated mixed in. Mashed still works.

Cut:

Cooked bite-sized; raw grated; or mashed.

12-18 months

Prep:

Continue bite-sized cooked, or once biting and tearing develops, raw rutabaga in paper-thin slices. Use mashed or grated in patties or fritters.

Cut:

Cooked bite-sized, raw paper-thin, or in patties.
