How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Grind shell-less pumpkin seeds (pepitas) finely with no large pieces. Sprinkle on yogurt, rice, or roll on slippery foods.

Cut:

Finely ground only. Whole seeds are a choking risk at this age.

12-18 months

Prep:

Sprinkle finely ground shell-less seeds on yogurt and warm cereals. Smooth pumpkin seed butter is fine, thinned on toast.

Cut:

Ground seeds or thin smooth butter. Whole seeds wait for mature chewing.

2 years and up

Prep:

After age 2, whole shell-less seeds may be possible if first molars are in and mature chewing is clear. Stay seated.

Cut:

Whole shell-less seeds with mature chewing only. Otherwise continue grinding.
