6-9 months

Prep:

Crush or blend cooked pinto beans into a textured mash or smooth paste. Spread on soft corn tortilla, mix into porridge or stewed greens. Start small.

9-12 months

Prep:

Offer pinto beans gently flattened between fingers for the developing pincer grasp. Continue mashed or pureed beans for spoon and finger practice.

Whole flattened beans; or mashed.

12-18 months

Whole well-cooked beans, served with a fork to encourage practice.
