How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

For Hachiya persimmon, wait until very ripe and mushy. Halve and scoop flesh from the skin. For firm Fuyu, ripen until soft, then offer a large wedge.

Cut:

Halved and scooped, or large wedge. Remove seeds.

9-12 months

Prep:

For Hachiya, halve a custardy ripe fruit so the child can scoop with a spoon. For Fuyu, ripen until tender, deseed, then offer bite-sized pieces or quarters.

Cut:

Halved (Hachiya) or bite-sized pieces / quarters (Fuyu).

12-18 months

Prep:

When fully ripe Hachiya is custardy and chewing skills are strong, the whole fruit can be offered. For Fuyu, serve quarters, thin rounds, or whole.

Cut:

Whole ripe Hachiya, or Fuyu quarters / rounds / whole.
