Nectarine

Usually introduced around 6 months

Choking risk

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Pick a very ripe pitted nectarine that mashes between thumb and finger. Skin can stay on for grip; if peeled, roll halves in shredded coconut.

Cut:

Halved with pit removed, or mashed and stirred into yogurt or porridge.

9-12 months

Prep:

Offer thin slices of soft, ripe nectarine, skin on or off. If pieces are too slippery for the pincer grasp, keep serving halves.

Cut:

Thin finger-width slices, or pitted halves.

12-18 months

Prep:

Continue with thin slices or halves for biting practice. Or offer bite-sized cubes to pre-load on a fork. Older toddlers can try a whole pitted nectarine modeled with you.

Cut:

Thin slices, halves, or bite-sized cubes; whole pitted with adult modeling.
