How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Share a bite of food containing miso, once soy and other allergens are introduced. Break miso-glazed salmon into strips or chop miso ramen into a bowl.

Cut:

Mixed into age-appropriate dishes. Avoid miso candies.

9-12 months

Prep:

Share small amounts of miso in cooked dishes. Sodium content is high; use as a flavoring rather than the main component, and skip miso candies.

Cut:

Small amounts as flavoring. No miso candies.

12-18 months

Prep:

Use miso as you normally would in marinades, sauces, stews, or soups. For miso soup, serve a small amount of broth in an open cup; plate solids separately.

Cut:

In dishes; broth in open cup, solids on plate.
