How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Finely chop kimchi into scoopable foods like noodles, porridge, or rice. Rinse first to lower spice and sodium. Watch for fish, shellfish, sesame, soy allergens.

Cut:

Finely chopped, mixed in. Rinse first.

9-12 months

Prep:

Offer kimchi chopped into bite-sized pieces, alone for the pincer grasp or in shared meals. Check firm pieces (cabbage, radish) are gum-mashable.

Cut:

Bite-sized pieces; firm pieces gum-mashable.

12-18 months

Prep:

Serve kimchi as desired, including larger pieces for biting and tearing practice. On its own or as part of a mixed dish.

Cut:

Any size, on its own or in mixed dishes.
