How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Serve well-cooked, mashed jicama for scooping, a large soft-cooked wedge to munch, or grated raw mixed into scoopable foods.

Cut:

Cooked mashed or large soft wedge; raw grated only.

9-12 months

Prep:

Bite-sized peeled cooked pieces for the pincer grasp. Raw grated, or thin 1 cm slices for biting practice. Avoid raw chunks.

Cut:

Cooked bite-sized; raw grated or thin 1 cm slices, no chunks.

12-18 months

Prep:

If chewing skills are solid, raw jicama in matchsticks or thin rounds. Otherwise continue cooked bite-sized pieces, wedges, or mash.

Cut:

Raw matchsticks or thin rounds (if ready), or cooked any form.
