Whole cherry and grape tomatoes are a top choking hazard, same shape and size as whole grapes. Always quarter lengthwise until at least age 4.

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Ripe, peeled if the skin is tough. Cherry tomatoes must be quartered, never whole or round-halved.

Cut:

Thin slices of a large tomato, or quartered cherry tomatoes lengthwise.

9-12 months

Prep:

Continue quartering cherry tomatoes lengthwise.

Cut:

Quartered cherry tomatoes, or small pieces of larger tomato.

12-18 months

Prep:
