34 Weeks Pregnant: What's Happening and One Thing to Set Up

Six weeks, give or take, and the to-do list has shrunk to the things that actually matter. Around now a lot of parents find the nesting urge kicks in, sorting drawers that were fine a week ago.

At 34 weeks, your baby is roughly the size of a cantaloupe melon, around 45cm from head to heel.1

How big is the baby at 34 weeks?

About 45cm head to heel, close to a cantaloupe melon.1 Most of the structural work is finished. The baby is mostly putting on fat now, and the organs keep maturing in the background.1

What's common around 34 weeks

Breasts may feel enlarged this far along, and some people notice them leaking small amounts of a yellowish fluid called colostrum.1 Colostrum is the first milk the body makes, and leaking some of it in late pregnancy is commonly experienced.

If anything about it surprises you or you have questions, your midwife or doctor is the right person to ask.

One thing to do this week: wash and sort the newborn clothes

This is the satisfying job. Pull out the tiny vests, sleepsuits, and blankets, run them through a wash, and fold them into the drawer by size. Newborn and 0 to 3 months will go fast, so a quick sort now means you can grab the right size half-asleep at 3 AM instead of digging through a gift bag.

This is also a good week to set up nappi if you haven't yet. The baby profile you create now, with the due date and your partner invited, becomes the baby's tracker the day they're born. Same record, same app, no starting over.

Frequently Asked Questions
