25 Weeks Pregnant: What's Happening and One Thing to Set Up

The nudges and rolls are getting harder to ignore. By 25 weeks plenty of parents can tell when the baby is awake, and even start to guess which body part just pressed against the bump.

At 25 weeks, your baby is roughly the size of a courgette, around 34.6cm from head to heel.1

What's happening at 25 weeks

The baby's systems keep maturing. One sign of that is that they're now passing urine into the amniotic fluid around them. Most of that surrounding fluid is now urine the baby produces and swallows.1

That cycle of swallowing and passing fluid is a normal part of development at this stage.

What's common around week 25

Water retention is common now, and it can show up as puffiness in the face, hands, and feet.1 Rings that used to slide off easily might feel snug, and shoes can pinch by the end of the day.

This swelling tends to ebb and flow with heat, activity, and time of day. Your midwife or doctor is who to ask if it appears suddenly or you'd like it checked.

Line up help for the first weeks

Now is a good week to think about who's around once the baby comes home. The first stretch is easier when there's backup: a parent who can stay over, a friend on call for a grocery run, or a postpartum helper if that's an option for you.

A few short conversations now beat figuring it out in the newborn fog. Just sketch out who could help and when, and let them know you might call.

While you're organizing, it's a fine time to set up nappi. The baby profile you build now carries the due date and lets you invite your partner, so the day the baby arrives you both share one record from the start. Our resources cover what those first weeks at home tend to look like.
