Introducing Egg to your baby
Around 6 months. Early introduction (4-6 months) may help prevent egg allergy, per Koplin 2010 and follow-up trials.
Fully cooked egg - scrambled, hard-boiled mashed, or baked into pancakes/muffins. Start with a pea-size amount. Avoid raw or runny egg (salmonella).
Hives, vomiting, diarrhea, wheezing. Egg is the second most common food allergy in infants; reactions often appear within 2 hours.
Mild: stop and call pediatrician. Moderate or severe (swelling, breathing issues, repeated vomiting): call emergency services.
Offer 2-3 times per week once tolerated to maintain tolerance.
General informational content, not medical advice. Talk to your pediatrician before introducing allergens, especially if your baby has eczema, a known food allergy, or a family history of severe allergic reactions.
Log first exposures, watch for reactions, and get reminders to keep allergens in the rotation. Free to try.
