Pancake, Banana and Strawberry

Pancake, Banana and Strawberry

From 6 months Β· 3 foods

Ingredients

How to prepare each food

Pancake

Prep

Make pancakes soft and fluffy, not dense or gummy, and let them cool. Skip added salt and sugar in the batter. Standard pancakes usually contain wheat, egg and milk, so offer it as one new ingredient at a time when those are still new foods. Whole-grain or iron-fortified flour adds a little more.

Cut

Cut into finger-width strips the baby can hold, or break into small soft pieces. Make sure each piece is moist and easy to gum.

Note

A thick, dense or underdone pancake can turn gummy and bunch up in the mouth. Keep pancakes thin and fluffy, cook through, serve in small moist pieces, and stay nearby during meals.

Banana

Prep

Use a fully ripe banana so it mashes easily between two fingers. Peel it and offer it as a smooth mash on a spoon, or hand over a finger-length strip the baby can hold with a bit poking out of the fist. A firm or under-ripe banana is harder to manage, so soften it by mashing.

Cut

Smooth mash, or a finger-length strip held in the fist.

Note

Banana is low-risk when fully ripe and soft. A firm or under-ripe banana is harder to manage, so mash it or wait until it ripens. Always supervise eating.

Strawberry

Prep

Choose ripe, soft strawberries. Mash them, or offer a large, flat half that your baby can hold and gum (too big to fit whole in the mouth), or thin slices. Hull off the green leafy top first.

Cut

Mashed, a large flat half too big to fit whole, or thin slices.

Note

A whole strawberry is round and firm enough to block a small airway. Cut or mash it so no whole, firm berry is offered. Slice into thin pieces or quarter lengthwise, and choose ripe, soft fruit.

Putting it together

Prepare each ingredient using the age guidance above, then serve them together.
