Cod, Potato and Peas

Cod, Potato and Peas

From 6 months · 3 foods

Ingredients

How to prepare each food

Cod

Prep

Cook the cod all the way through until it flakes apart easily (never raw or seared). Remove every bone by running your fingers through the flesh, then flake it finely or stir it smooth into a purée. As a fish from the lower-mercury group, it suits routine meals about twice a week.

Cut

Pea-size flakes, checked by hand for bones, or a smooth purée.

Note

Hidden bones are the main hazard. Run your fingers through every piece and remove each bone before serving, since even fine fish bones can be sharp.

Potato

Prep

Potato is always cooked, never raw. Boil, steam, bake, or roast until very soft, then mash to a smooth purée or offer a finger-length soft-cooked wedge. A little breast milk, formula, or water loosens a stiff mash. Skip salt.

Cut

Smooth mash, or a soft finger-length wedge.

Note

Cook potato until soft; raw or undercooked potato is hard. A very sticky, gluey mash can cling to the mouth, so loosen it or serve a fluffier texture. Keep pieces small and watch as your baby eats.

Peas

Prep

Cook peas until very soft, then burst each one or mash to a thick purée. The small round, firm shape is the part to soften, so press every pea flat before serving. Skip salt.

Cut

Burst or flatten each pea, or serve as a smooth thick mash.

Note

Whole peas are a small round shape that can be a choking risk. Burst, smash, or halve them so no whole round pea is served, and keep watching as your baby eats.

Putting it together

Prepare each ingredient using the age guidance above, then serve them together.
