Rice

Usually introduced around 6 months

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Cook until very soft. Sticky or short-grain varieties clump and are easier to scoop.

Cut:

Serve in small sticky clumps on a pre-loaded spoon, or rolled into mini balls.

9-12 months

Prep:

Any cooked rice works once pincer grasp develops. Mix with sauce, stew, or protein for easier pickup.

Cut:

Spoonfuls or small clumps.

12-18 months

Prep:

Rice on its own or in a shared meal. Stickier, moister rice is easier for utensil practice.

Cut:

Cooked, loose or sticky.
